Honda manufactures two distinct
ranges of mowers. The first being ‘The Izy’ (pronounced
easy) which in our opinion is the best range of steel deck
mowers we have ever sold, and their core range which offers
the very best in safety, ease of use and reliability. |

We have sold Mountfield lawnmowers
since the beginning and it’s a bit like a marriage you don’t
stay with something unless its right. Being a British company
Mountfield have always designed and built mowers to suit
our conditions, not the long dry matt the Americans call
grass! Over the last 2 years the Mountfield range has been
completely re-designed to provide even greater performance
and value for money and we think they have done an excellent
job. |

When a company based at Ivybridge
approached us some ten years ago and asked us to evaluate
a range of
machines to see if they were suitable for the UK’s
conditions we said yes. Two days later a van arrived with
a load of bright yellow mowers. Having realised there were
no grass collections we came to the conclusion that they
were mulchers, having had a little experience with some American
built machines which were supposed to mulch but didn’t
we were a little sceptical.
However it soon became apparent that the Stiga method of mulching worked on our
wet lush lawns.
If you cut your lawn on a regular basis (every 7-10 days ideally) and want to
do away with the hassle of collecting and deposing of grass clippings then Stiga’s
Multiclip system is the answer. Not only will you save yourself a pile of grass
but you will also save yourself a pile of time by not having to empty the grass
bag. |

For cutting steep ground or banks or
if you want a completely manoeuvrable machine to around and
under trees and bushes then a hover mower is the answer.
For over twenty years Allen’s have manufactured a range
of world class hover mowers. Traditional using 2-stroke engines
2002 saw the introduction of Honda 4-stroke powered machines
to comply with current and impending emission and noise regulations.
These special Honda engines have been designed to work continuously
on slopes of 45 degrees, added advantages include no mixing
of oil and fuel, reliable 4-stroke power and lower noise.
Allen’s also market the Robomow, a robotic mower that
will mow your lawn for you even if you’re going out.

For over 80 years Atco has been manufacturing
fine British lawnmowers for quality British lawns.
For the traditional gardener Atco’s cylinder mowers
cut the grass with a scissor like action, with the revolving
cylinder blades slicing across a fixed plate. The result
is a clean cut, which ensures healthy grass that is less
susceptible to disease or weeds.
Being slightly heavier than a rotary mower the front and
rear rollers not only produce a distinct stripe but also
help over a period of time to produce a smoother lawn. |
 |
| |
We are also stockists of Lawnflite and
Yardman petrol rotary mowers who offer a wide range of steel,
polymer and alloy deck machines. Various widths of cut are
available and a choice of Briggs & Stratton and Kawasaki
engines. For the latest details please contact our sales
department. |

1.
Do I want petrol or electric?
For small lawns electric is ideal, but if you have a larger lawn don’t
let the thought of having to start a petrol mower put you off. There are a
number of petrol lawnmowers available now, which are incredibly easy to start,
and some even have the option of key start.
2. Do I want a cylinder or rotary cut?
20-30 years ago the majority of mowers sold would have been the traditional
cylinder cut as used on bowling greens and golf courses, giving an excellent
finish on your lawn. But you do have to make sure you keep the grass short,
avoid hard objects like stones and Action Man accessories! and be prepared
for higher levels of maintenance and running costs.
We believe that it is for these reasons that the number of cylinder mowers
sold has gradually declined over the years with probably 90% of the mowers
sold today being rotary cut.
The rotary mower can still provide an excellent finish and if you still want
the stripes associated with a cylinder mower, rotaries with rear rollers are
available to do just that. The rotary mower also gives far more flexibility
when it comes to the conditions you can cut in and maintenance is a lot simpler.
3. Is my lawn level?
It is unusually, especially in the southwest to find a perfectly level lawn.
If your lawn is on a slope of up to 15-20 degrees the majority of petrol mowers
will be fine. Much over that and you need to start thinking about how good
the lubrication system is on the engine and how safe you feel walking on the
ground. For cutting steeper lawns and banks a rotary hover mower is the answer,
riding on a cushion of air they are extremely manoeuvrable and have 2 or 4
stroke engines designed to work on slopes of up to 45 degrees.
Answering these basic questions will help you narrow down your selection,
you then need to consider do I want to push it or it to be self-propelled,
on a rotary do I want 4 wheels or a rear roller, do I want to collect the
grass or mulch?
We can help you answer all these and ensure making the right choice is as
painless as possible
